The Central Region of the Virginia SAR consists of seven chapters that encompass the central portion of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including the state capital Richmond.

Significant Rev War Events and Locations for the Central Region
Here are just a few of the many battles fought and other important events and locations within the Virginia Colony. In 2025, the SAR will participate in numerous 250th Anniversary events.
- Petersburg Campaign (1781)—British forces engaged at Petersburg, a crucial supply center, before the final surrender at Yorktown.
- Crossing of the Dan (1781)—Daring maneuver led by General Nathaniel Greene following the Battle of the Cowpens.
- Battle of Osborne’s Landing (or Action at Osborne's) (April 27, 1781)—a minor naval-land engagement where British forces under General Benedict Arnold attacked and nearly destroyed the Virginia State Navy.
- Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech—St. John's Church (Richmond, Va.), the site of Patrick Henry's impassioned oratory “give me liberty or give me death” is one of the oldest wooden churches (1741) in Virginia; join us on March 16, 2025 to mark its 250th Anniversary.

Move of Virginia's Capital to Richmond (1780)—In the midst of the war, Thomas Jefferson, then governor of Virginia, moved the state capital from Williamsburg to Richmond due to its more defensible location.

Historical Markers
Beyond honoring patriots of the American Revolution interred within cemeteries located in the Frontier Region, the SAR has been active in honoring patriots and historical events, including such monuments:
- Leland–Madison Memorial Park—Located within this park in Orange, Va., is the Elder John Leland marker erected by the Berkshire County, Massachusetts Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. (Historical Marker Database webpage)
