Rockbridge Volunteers Chapter SARThe Rockbridge Volunteers Chapter SAR is one of seven chapters located in the Central Region and draws its membership from the City of Lexington and surrounding Rockbridge County, Virginia area. Our members engage in a wide variety of educational, historical and patriotic programs throughout the year in the Shenandoah Valley in service to our local communities including outreach and service to youth, scouts, veterans, and first responders. The chapter is named for the Rockbridge Volunteers, a name given to the local militia companies, who were part of the broader Virginia militia system, which was crucial in supporting the Continental Army and local defense efforts. The Rockbridge Volunteers, like other militia units, were composed of local men who were called upon to serve in times of need. They participated in various skirmishes and battles, contributing to the overall war effort against British forces. Their involvement helped to bolster the ranks of the Continental Army and provided essential support in the fight for American independence.
