The Virginia SAR American Heritage Programs

Welcome to the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution’s American Heritage Programs! Our mission is to honor and preserve the rich history of our nation by celebrating significant events and sites from the American Revolution. Through our dedicated efforts, we commemorate major anniversaries of revolutionary milestones, preserve and mark the graves of our brave patriots, and engage the community in educational and patriotic activities.

We are especially proud of our Color Guard, which serves as the most visible element of our organization. Dressed in authentic period attire, they bring history to life at ceremonies, parades, and educational events, embodying the spirit and valor of our forefathers.

Join us as we keep the spirit of the Revolution alive, ensuring that the sacrifices and achievements of our forefathers continue to inspire future generations. Together, we can celebrate and safeguard the legacy of American independence and freedom.

Historical Markers

The Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) have been dedicated to preserving the memory of significant locations, patriots, and events throughout Virginia by installing historical markers. These markers serve as tangible reminders of the pivotal moments and individuals that shaped the history of the United States. By carefully selecting sites of historical importance, the SAR ensures that the contributions and sacrifices of Revolutionary War patriots are not forgotten. Each marker tells a unique story, offering a glimpse into the past and educating the public about the rich heritage of the nation. The program not only honors the legacy of the Founding Fathers but also fosters a deeper appreciation for American history among future generations.

One example (pictured right) is the Richmond Chapter SAR dedication of historical marker honoring Susanna Bolling, which occurred in October 2024.

Also beginning in 2024, the Virginia SAR formed a partnership with the William G. Pomeroy Foundation to award grants for a Patriot Burials® program.
