Daniel Morgan (c. 1736 – July 6, 1802) was a distinguished American soldier and pioneer from Virginia. Born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, to Welsh immigrant parents, Morgan moved to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, where he became a successful teamster and landowner. Morgan is best known for his remarkable service during the American Revolutionary War. He was a skilled tactician and leader, playing key roles in several significant battles, including the Battle of Saratoga and the Battle of Cowpens. His victory at Cowpens is particularly celebrated for its strategic brilliance and impact on the war's outcome. After the war, Morgan retired to his estate but was called back to service in 1794 to help suppress the Whiskey Rebellion. He later served as a Federalist representative in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1797 to 1799. Morgan passed away on July 6, 1802, in Winchester, Virginia, leaving behind a legacy of military excellence and dedication to his country. The chapter was won two consecutive President General's Education Outreach Streamer (2022, 2023) for its robust support of local historical presentations to the community, at ceremonies held at the Annual Congress of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution.
