Call for Volunteers with the SAR PRS

This entails updating the national Patriot Research System (PRS) through either – There is a need for volunteers to assist in developing the PRS.  This would entail obtaining a national SAR PRS Volunteer number and then updating files with lineage, patriot personal information and biographies of patriots.

Thanks to the herculean effort of several Virginia SAR compatriots, many of the Patriots, buried within Virginia, are listed in the SAR PRS and are indexed to the correct (or best known) cemetery location, often based on data found on online sources such as Find-a-Grave and/or by direct observation and visit to the cemetery.

Chapters are highly encouraged to assist your chapter compatriots in developing a biography of the member's patriot for publishing at the SAR PRS.

How Can You Make a Difference?

Headstone Photo. Thanks to the incredible effort by several Virginia SAR compatriots, headstone photos of interred Patriots are often included. If your patriot has a headstone but the SAR PRS does not have one, please send your photo [email protected] and cc: Jamie Callender and Dale Corey.  NOTE: Do not simply take a screen capture of another person's photo (e.g., do not submit a Find-a-Grave photo).

GPS Coordinates. By adding a Patriot's GPS coordinates to the SAR PRS record, you help countless others in more quickly locating a patriot's memorial or gravestone.

Biographies. Everyone has a story to tell, certainly our Patriots' stories need to be told. In 2024, less than 11% of all Patriots listed in the SAR PRS have a written biography that, at a minimum, details their contributions to the American Revolution but also may describe their life prior to and after the Revolutionary War.
