Lieutenant David Cox Chapter SAR

The Lt. David Cox Chapter SAR was chartered in March 19, 1948 and is the oldest of seven chapters in the Frontier Region. We draw our membership from and serve the greater Galax and Independence areas of southwestern Virginia, including Wythe County. We are dedicated to supporting the patriotic, historical, and educational purposes of the SAR in this region and beyond.

Lt. David Cox (SAR Patriot P-139929) was an early settler and inspirational patriot during the Revolutionary War, fighting in such battles as Point Pleasant and King's Mountain, showcased his bravery and dedication to the Patriot cause.

The chapter is proud to have been awarded the President General’s Education Outreach Award and Streamer (2022) at the National Society's Annual Congress for our outstanding youth and education programs.
