Chaplains’ Corner: Guidance, Service, Fellowship

Welcome to the Chaplains’ Corner of the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution—a place of reflection, encouragement, and unity. Here, chapter chaplains will find resources and inspiration rooted in tradition and shared purpose. Though many of our chaplains are ordained clergy with roots in specific faith traditions, this space welcomes and honors the diverse religious beliefs and spiritual journeys represented within our compatriot community.

Within the SAR, chaplains serve as ceremonial guides, offering invocations and benedictions during grave markings, commemorations, and events that preserve the legacy of our patriot ancestors. In moments of remembrance and celebration, of grief and gratitude, their presence embodies comfort and calling—a reminder that our work within SAR carries both civic and moral meaning.

This corner exists to support chaplains in their sacred duties and strengthen their fellowship across chapters. May it serve as a compass, a resource, and a gentle light—inviting all who serve in this role to draw strength from shared faith, shared heritage, and shared commitment to honoring the Spirit of '76.

As the Virginia SAR chaplain, one of my most precious roles is to advise, assist, and minister to the spiritual needs of Virginia SAR members. This page will become a resource for those looking for fellowship, thought starters, prayerful inspiration, and historic commemoration/prayers.

National SAR Resources

  • The NSSAR Chaplains Committee Manual offers a rich framework for shaping your webpage, especially in defining the ceremonial, pastoral, and advisory roles chaplains play across Chapter, State, and National levels.
  • The SAR Prayer Book (3rd ed.) is developed by the National SAR Chaplains Committee, which encourages chaplains to adapt the prayers in this prayer book to accommodate the religious beliefs of those present at the events for which the prayers contained in this book are offered.
